2026-2027 NBA Coaching Carousel: Latest News on the Assistant Coaches & Staff Tracker

Hey NBA Fans, Behind the Coaching is bringing back the NBA Assistant Coach Carousel & Tracker for the upcoming 2026 NBA off-season, which will serve as an ongoing updated list of the additions, promotions, and status of each NBA team’s coaching staff.

Whenever an update is made to a staff, this post will be updated with the verified source of said changes. “Remaining Coaching Staff” sections will be added only if their status under a new and incoming head coach is unknown. Coaches who are retained will be indicated with a verified source.

NBA HEAD COACHING VACANCIES

Milwaukee Bucks

On April 23, 2026, Former Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach and Milwaukee Bucks Assistant Coach under Mike Budenholzer was hired as the head coach of the Bucks succeeding the retiring Doc Rivers, it isn’t fully known at the moment who will be retained, replaced, or extended on the coaching staff.

Atlanta Hawks

• On March 25, 2026, Assistant Coach Ronald Nored was announced as the new head coach of the Butler Bulldogs men’s basketball team, replacing Thad Matta.

Sacramento Kings

• On April 15, 2026, Sacramento Kings Insider James Ham reported that Assistant Coach Dipesh Mistry will not return to the Kings for the 2026-2027 season.
• Also on April 15th, 2026, Player Development Coach Jimmy Alapag announced he would not be returning to the Sacramento Kings for the 2026-2027 season.

Brooklyn Nets

• On April 20, 2026, Head Coach Jordi Ferandez and his entire coaching staff were signed to multiyear extensions.

New Orleans Pelicans

• On April 17, 2026, Per Shamit Dua, Assistant Coaches Casey Hill and Corey Brewer will not be retained for the 2026-2027 season.
• On April 22, 2026, Jarron Collins will not return to the Pelicans for the 2026-2027 season per Shamit Dua.

Portland Trail Blazers

With the upcoming head coaching decision in Portland, it isn’t fully known at the moment who will be retained, replaced, or extended on the coaching staff. However, keep in mind that Chauncey Billups was never officially fired, Tiago Splitter remains as the Interim Head Coach.
