Top Left Fielders in the First Third of the 2026 MLB Season

For these left field rankings, I focused on overall player value rather than relying solely on one statistic. Offensive production was evaluated using metrics such as batting average, OPS, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, wRC+, and WAR, while defensive performance was also heavily considered. Because left fielders can impact games both at the plate and in the field, players who provided value on both sides of the game were given an advantage when rankings were close. All statistics are from FanGraphs and Baseball Savant and are current through May 26.

While Randy Arozarena currently holds a slight WAR advantage, I believe Cody Bellinger’s superior defensive value and nearly identical offensive production make him the more complete left fielder through the first third of the season. Bellinger is playing good defense whereas Arozarena is a liability. Riley Greene was also on my list of players for AL left field all star, but he was just as bad at defense as Arozarena and less valuable hitting wise. When I think of an All-Star, I think of someone who does well on offense and defense, the best American League left fielder across all areas is Cody Bellinger. Let’s compare his stat line vs Randy Arozarena.

  • Bellinger slash line .269/.387/.475
  • Arozarena slash line .297/.386/.470
  • Bellinger WAR/wRC+ – 1.9/145
  • Arozarena WAR/wRC+ – 2.1/150

Bellinger has almost an identical slash line, with a higher OPS, and isn’t too far behind Arozarena in WAR and wRC+. I also want to point out that Bellinger has played 7 less games in left field than Arozarena. With those additional appearances, I think Bellinger would edge out Arozarena. If you look at Baseball Savant, Bellinger is in a higher percentile for every stat besides base running value, exit velocity, hard hit %, and bat speed. Bellinger is the better player so far, and I don’t care what the WAR stats say.

I’m probably going to get some heat for this take as well, but Daylen Lile is my pick for NL All Star. He’s third best in WAR for left fielders in the NL, behind Ian Happ and Teoscar Hernandez. He matches Teoscar Hernandez’s slugging percentage, strikes out far less than both, and truthfully he’s been better defensively than both in left field. Happ is known for his glove, but Lile has been even better. Honestly speaking, any three of these guys were deserving of the spot but I’m choosing Lile as his value is spread across both sides of baseball. I wanted to make JJ Bleday my all star but he’s played in about half the games those other three guys have, however, Bleday has the highest wRC+, slugging, OPS, and second highest OBP only second to Riley Greene. He’s also striking out about the same amount he walks, and has a .9 WAR in only 23 games. Half the games of Lile, almost the same amount of WAR. I’d be shocked if Bleday isn’t my All-Star at the end of the season.

Do you agree with these left field rankings? Let me know which players you would select as All-Stars, and come back tomorrow as I break down the best center fielders in baseball through the first third of the season.
